I'm trying to gather links to wombat sites around the web.
There is a great threat to wombats in the wild at the moment. The sarcoptic mange. Caused by mites, the disease and secondary infections from the disease lead to a painful death for infected wombats.
As yet there is not an integrated effective effort from all the organisations that are responsible for wombats. Individual charities (like Sleepy Burro3s Wombat Sancturary or Cedar Creek Wombat Rescue are doing what they can, but without a concerted effort from everyone working together, success in controlling mite infestations is unlikely.
For now, report manged wombat sightings via the womsat app
Also, see Sleepy Burrows Wombat Sanctuary Facebook Page
` These folk really love wombats: general info site on All species of Wombat
This is a wombat we saw in Tasmania. Tasmanian common wombats tend to be slightly larger than the mainland ones. I suspect this is because it's generally colder.
Keep an eye on this site: it used to have Wombat info, but all content seems to have disappeared: AstroWombat
The Australian Government's SPRAT profile gives threats and management info for the Northern Hairy Nosed Wombat — possibly the most endagnered mammal in the world.
Note I am not associated in any way with any of these sites. I try to keep this page current, but links may be broken. This site has a free DNS name from My Freenom. Although I'm using it primarily as mail forwarding domain, the T&C of freenom insist on a web page.
Freenom appears to have lost its ability to register domains; so for now this site is appearing under wombat.rest and wombat.ml
